Itinerary

Lets start by taking our vehicle from the hotel and heading to gate. Once we finish the registration procedures, at the gate the trek will commence through the rainforest, towards cave campsite, where all tents are already pitched. We'll pause there for dinner. Spend the night. Todays journey will lead us through ridges and valleys into a forest.
Distance: 10 km.
Time: 4-5 hours.

On the day of the trek you will journey from Umbwe Cave Campsite to Barranco Hut Campsite. Following breakfast you'll hike through the forest before reaching the moorland and heath zone. Along the way you'll be treated to vistas of Barranco valleys and the icy peak of the mountain. Your day will culminate at Barranco Camp, where you'll enjoy a dinner and spend the night.

Distance: 9 km
Time: 4-5 hours

On this day you'll enjoy a walk in the morning. By morning you'll begin your ascent of Barranco Wall reaching an elevation of 4200m for acclimatization. You'll then traverse ridges and valleys to reach Karanga campsite in time for a lunch. After your meal take a break before embarking on another acclimatization trek up the slopes, towards the Southern ice field. Return to camp for a dinner. Spend the night there.

The trek up to the Barafu ridge campsite today is quite challenging due to the altitude. Since the path is steep we'll be walking for a duration requiring a pace to prevent fatigue and altitude sickness. As we cross the alpine desert with winds blowing strongly due, to the absence of trees we'll find ourselves nearing the Kibo glaciers. After having lunch and an early dinner we'll rest until midnight before embarking on the summit climb.

time: 3-4 hours

The day kicks off around midnight with a light breakfast, followed by final preparations for your climb to the summit. The aim is to ascend before dawn to reach Uhuru Peak before or after sunrise. Begin the trek towards the peak at midnight navigating up scree or possibly snow and arrive at Stella Point on the crater rim at 5,861m around 4 5 am. From this vantage point you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the crater and its majestic icecaps in front of you surrounded by the landscape. After an hours hike along the Kibo crater rim close to the snows leads you to Kilimanjaros point, Uhuru Peak. Take some time here for capturing photos. Once you've completed your summit activities descend back to Barafu Huts campsite for lunch rest up gather your gear and then continue your descent through moorland and heath zone, towards Mweka Huts campsite for dinner and overnight stay.

Time; 10 – 12 hours

On the day of your trek you'll journey from Mweka Hut campsite to Mweka Gate. It marks the end of your mountain adventure as you make your way through the Montane forest. The descent will take a hours allowing you to soak in the scenery one time. At the gate you'll sign out before boarding a vehicle that will take you back, to your hotel, in Moshi. There you'll receive your certificate. Enjoy a celebration to commemorate your climb.
